The ‘District Industries Centre’ (DIC) now renamed as District Commerce & Industries Centre (DCIC) was established on 13th February, 1985 with a view to providing integrated administrative framework at the district level for encouraging rural entrepreneurs. DCIC serves as a single window interacting agency at the district level which provides services and support to small entrepreneurs under a single roof at both pre and post investments. DCICs provide various schemes for promoting the growth of rural and cottage industries and also different small, micro and medium industries. DCICs function under the Directorate of Commerce & Industries, Shillong.

ROLE

The basic role Of the Department is to facilitate the creation of an enabling environment and infrastructure to accelerate growth in the Industrial and Commerce sector through formulation of appropriate Industrial Policy and implementation of the various programmes and schemes of both State and Central Government. The Department also reaches out to the rural people through its Vocational Training Centres at various C & RDs such as CTC at DCIC, Williamnagar and at KTEC, Rongjeng to generate skilled man power in the field of Knitting, Tailoring, Embroidery, Carpentry Fabrication, etc The Department also assists in the registration of all MSMEs through the Udyog Aadhaar systemn, ensuring easier access to government schemes which is applicable to all existing units. The Department organises various industrial awareness and EDP’s and is actively workshops, involved with the ongoing Apiculture Mission and works in Convergence with the other Departments for achieving results. The Department also conduct Exhibition at District level once a year for the entrepreneurs to showcase and demonstrate their latest products, service, and examine recent trends and opportunities.

1) State Award for Handicraft Artisans (Annually)
The “Meghalaya Iindustrial and Investment Promotion Policy, 2024” aims to attract investments at regional, national, and international levels, leveraging the Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialization Scheme (UNNATI) for additional investor benefits. The policy focuses on economic development, local youth and community participation, and job creation. The District Commerce & Industries Centre processes this scheme under the policy.
