After launch of the National Health Mission (NHM), there has been substantial increase in the number of institutional deliveries. However, this increase in the coverage of institutional births has not resulted into commensurate improvements in the key maternal and new-born health indicators.
In this respect, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched 'LaQshya'- A Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative which aims at improving the quality of care (QoC) in the Labour Rooms(LRs), Operation theatres (OTs) and other mother and child services areas in public health facilities across the country, The program aims to reduce complications and deaths of mothers and babies around the period of child birth which contributes to highest proportion of maternal and newborn deaths.
LaQshya brings together Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) approaches and strives to provide a better Experience of care to the beneficiaries by integrating the concept of respectful maternity and newborn care
