The Department of Tourism is responsible for the holistic development, promotion and maintenance of tourism related facilities in the state of Meghalaya. It is headed by the Com. & Sec. Tourism Department Govt. of Meghalaya and the Director of Tourism at the Directorate Level.

 

The Major roles/functions of the Department is to promote the state’s rich cultural heritage in the form of caves, waterfalls, lakes, rare flora and fauna to name a few. The Dept. also preserves and promotes a unique blend of cultures, lifestyles, sports, dances and festivals of indigenous people such as Wangala dance of the Garos.
